Impromptu field trip to the Franz Bread Bakery!

Some fellow Dill Picklers managed to get a rare tour of the amazing US Bakery -- better known as the Franz Bread bakery with the giant rotating loaf of bread and the window that lets you watch all the breads! I was lucky enough to get invited along. Thanks Melissa!

Things we learned:

Joseph Franz was born in the same building they still use on 11th.
The "bun highway" has a capacity of 16,000 buns!
The high-pressure flour transport shoots 165 pounds of flour per second under the street from the storehouse
That individual bakery supplies buns to all McDonalds, Burger Kings, and Burgervilles in Oregon and Washington.
That's 1 million buns a day.
An industrial dough mixer opening at the final moments of mixing a batch of dough the size of a horse is ONE OF THE CRAZIEST THINGS YOU WILL EVER SEE.
Photos were not allowed.
Franz makes tiny mini loafs for the childrens.

You mean bread's not made of daisies? (Crap. Thanks for the proofread -- too many bloggings, too late at night.)
