The Lost Art of the Caffeinist by McKenzie Wark

"03. The caffeinist is always working on something, but is in no
hurry. There are books to read, and to write. Correspondence to catch
up on, plots to hatch. But there is also time for people watching, the
newspaper, or idly smoking a cigarette. There is no real difference
between these activities."

and

"08. A notebook is acceptable, but a laptop makes one look like an
idiot or an aspiring screen writer, which is in any case much the same
thing. "

Draw Your Brain! The blog

Hi. One thing we've learned here at Research Club is that if you quickly draw your own brain and label the sections, it is almost always a) hilarious and b) shockingly accurate.

In furtherance of this edifying phenomena, I have started a brain-drawing blog:

http://drawyourbrain.posterous.com/

anyone should be able to post by emailing post@drawyourbrain.posterous.com

enjoy.

Impromptu field trip to the Franz Bread Bakery!

Some fellow Dill Picklers managed to get a rare tour of the amazing US Bakery -- better known as the Franz Bread bakery with the giant rotating loaf of bread and the window that lets you watch all the breads! I was lucky enough to get invited along. Thanks Melissa!

Things we learned:

Joseph Franz was born in the same building they still use on 11th.
The "bun highway" has a capacity of 16,000 buns!
The high-pressure flour transport shoots 165 pounds of flour per second under the street from the storehouse
That individual bakery supplies buns to all McDonalds, Burger Kings, and Burgervilles in Oregon and Washington.
That's 1 million buns a day.
An industrial dough mixer opening at the final moments of mixing a batch of dough the size of a horse is ONE OF THE CRAZIEST THINGS YOU WILL EVER SEE.
Photos were not allowed.
Franz makes tiny mini loafs for the childrens.
